Wild Plants
Where I live I have a lot of woodland surrounded by Big Grassy Creek. This creek eventually winds it's way to Kerr Lake which is only 7-8 miles from my house. On my land every spring I see so many plants that grow wild. I have been tempted to move them closer, but I realize they would probably not thrive like where they are now. I have cleared a path about 8 feet wide through the three quarters of a mile creek bank. We spend a lot of time here, the kids swim and the dog plays and hunts turtles. We have Herons here and Finches, Bluebirds, Owls, Quail, Doves and of course the noisy Ravens. The plants that grow are so beautiful. I think what makes them so pretty is the idea that God planted them. We have Hearts a Bursting, Mountain Laurel, Dwarf Irises, Indian Paintbrush, Jack in the Pulpit and May Apples. We also have wild blackberries that I make jelly out of and the wild black Raspberries are so sweet. Every spring my yard is full of tiny sweet wild strawberries. The rabbits get them before we do. I live in a natural Arboretum and I couldn't be happier. |
